Born in Bakersfield, California, and raised in Lodi, Jose grew up surrounded by hard work and seasonal labor. From an early age, he took on jobs in grape fields and packing sheds—doing what he could to help his family. But with harvest seasons constantly changing, maintaining consistent employment was a struggle.

Looking to build a more stable future, Jose visited the CHD Galt office to explore new career opportunities. It was there that he learned about the WIOA-167 and Temporary Housing Assistance programs—and discovered a path that aligned perfectly with his goals: becoming a professional truck driver.

Jose was referred to a case manager, enrolled in both support programs, and soon started his CDL training with 160 Driving Academy. Thanks to the support of WIOA-167, he received help with housing and transportation while he focused on mastering the skills needed behind the wheel.

In April 2025, Jose graduated and officially earned his Class A Commercial Driver’s License.

With resume help and job placement support, Jose secured a new position with Reeve Trucking Co Inc, where he begins work on May 29th, 2025—earning $32 per hour.

Jose expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, saying this next chapter will provide much-needed financial stability for him and his family. His story is a powerful reminder that with the right training and resources, long-term change is possible.

At 160 Driving Academy, we’re proud to help students like Jose turn hard work into long-term careers. If you're ready to get on the road to a better future, we're here to help every step of the way.
